裴钢院士：如果你喜欢科学，就要脚踏实地
“动机”(Motivation)，中国科学院上海生命科学研究院院长裴钢院士用这个词作为对研究生们的第一个建议，“你首先要有非常强烈的动机和动力，如果你喜欢科学，我建议你就努力去做，如果不喜欢，那就趁早挑选你喜欢的事去做。”在裴钢看来，研究生应具有的第二个素质是“矢志不移”(persistency)，“你要永远不停地努力。一定要脚踏实地，基本功都要掌握好。”
“团队合作精神”和“创新”，是裴钢院士对研究生的另外两个希望，他说：“科学研究是一项社会性活动，要和其他人合作来做。做科学本身就是追求真善美，没有必要的胸襟，不会与别人合作，就什么事情也做不好。”“科学和艺术一样，永远要创新，总要做和别人不一样的东西 (to be different)。”
2006年3月24日，在参加中科院研究生院学位评定委员会第二届第6次会议期间，裴钢院士接受了“研究生教育访谈录”的专题采访。访谈中，裴钢院士谈到了对国立研究机构科研与研究生教育协调发展的观点、上海生科院研究生教育的具体做法，以及他本人从事科研和教育工作的体会、对研究生们的期望与建议。
